ABOUT

ABOUT ME

My name is Kim, and I am a mental health counselor (counseling psychologist). I offer counseling to help couples/partners and individuals move forward on their own unique paths, because there is no one way that is right for everyone. In counseling/therapy, we will work towards your goals, at your pace, discovering the approach that works best for you. Additionally, I am Senior Faculty and a Clinical Supervisor at Webster University in Leiden, where I teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology, and provide clinical supervision to graduate students in the Masters of Counseling Psychology program.

As an American who has been living in the Netherlands since 2002, I understand well the complexities of the immigrant/expat experience—what it means to try to fit into a new culture and how it feels to leave people, places, memories, and perhaps even parts of yourself, behind. I have also experienced the complexities of cultural differences in relationships. And like many people, I know what it means to face tough decisions and uncertainty, to struggle but also to progress, and to be confronted with the “big” questions of life.

I believe in human resilience and our ability to grow, especially when we have a safe space to explore ourselves and the challenges we face. With this in mind, I approach clients in a non-judgmental and empathetic manner, appreciating that while, as human beings we share many commonalities, we are also unique.
